Book Review #14 - Plan to Fail

Image
Thoughts: Hello everyone!! I hope you're having a lovely day!  I'm here today with Plan to Fail, the second book in the Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott series. I personally did not like this one as much as the first, however it was still good. I mean, it's spies. Spies are awesome.  *brain fails* Yeah, read it. I'm too tired to think of more words.  Author:  Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick Genre:  Contemporary Fiction/Mystery/Adventure Series:  Yes, book two in The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott. Review of book #1 here ! Time Period:  Modern Day Setting:  Phoenix, Arizona Summary:   "They're on a date... but not really.. When Brent asks Emily to be his date, she knows it doesn't mean anything. He has a mission requiring him to go undercover at a charity gala. After getting a makeover at his spy agency headquarters, she's ready to assume the role of an opinionated book reviewer from New York.  The Gremlin is planning to steal and sell top-...

Book Review #11 - Rise of the Fallen

Thoughts: *grins widely* Hello, readers! Unfortunately, Miss Ella Grace couldn’t join us this week, so I, Raya Lee, am in charge of yet another book review. She has even been kind enough to grant me access to this blog with my own account, so that I don’t keep hacking into hers. I guess that shows that I am a good kidnapper, considering the kid I’ve nabbed (I never understood why it’s kidnapper when you’re actually nabbing the kid… so it should really be kidnabber in my opinion) granted me access to her blog. Not like I’m complaining though! Since I’ve given you some time, I figured it was time to review the second installment of the Wars of the Realm trilogy by Chuck Black! If you have not read Cloak of the Light, this post will contain some spoilers for that book. If I’m being completely honest, I didn’t read this second book until I’d read the first and last book twice through. I already had all three books at my disposal, and this second book isn’t quite as directly related to Drew...

Book Review #10 - The Green Ember

Thoughts: Readers, you are once again stuck with Raya Lee. Your precious hostess still remains in my clutches… though perhaps next week you shall hear from your beloved Ella Grace. In the meantime… *inhales slowly* I don’t believe you are quite ready to hear about my thoughts on this series. Too bad for you though, because you shall hear about my thoughts anyways. From the ages of 10-13, this was my favorite book series. EVER. I spent countless hours reading (and rereading) the series, then more countless hours working the nine fanfictions I wrote for it. Though it is no longer my favorite, it still remains very near and dear to my heart. However, just because it was a favorite doesn’t mean it had no flaws. This will be a very honest post, but I hope it convinces you to give the book a shot! I will say, this series is intended for younger children. While teens and adults may find it enjoyable (my dad loved this series, and I still love it at 16 years old), it may not intrigue older ima...

Book Review #9 - Cloak of the Light

Thoughts: *cackles wildly* Alas, dear readers, your precious host still remains trapped the clutches of yours truly, Raya Lee. Therefore, I have another chance to ruin her blog by posting about my favorite books instead of hers. Because this is most certainly a book that she has never read but tis fine, as I at least had the decency to ask her permission first before storming her blog about a book she has yet to read. Now, Cloak of the Light by Chuck Black is literally part of my favorite book series of all time. Favorite. Ever. I religiously read the whole series roughly every 3-6 months, sometimes more frequently. Yes, it belongs to a three-part series, called Wars of the Realm. The first book immediately captured my interest; from the very first five words, I was hooked. Being a cross between Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Mystery and Romance, there’s always something new to learn. Author:   Chuck Black Genre: Action/Adventure, Fiction, Science Fiction, Mystery, Romance Series: I’l...

Book Review # 6 - The Nebula Secret

Thoughts: *bounces into the room and hands out ice cream sandwiches* Welcome! Welcome back and good afternoon! Or good morning... or evening...  Well, we're back with a book that I was a bit obsessed with when I was thirteen. Looking back, I don't completely understand why. While it is an interesting read, with intriguing characters and a fascinating plot, it is unrealistic. The tech in the story is theoretically possible and being experimented with, but when perfected and placed all together it ramps up the level of unrealism.  My problem is probably that I don't read much sci-fi... or any...  However, the characters are lively and the plot is quick moving. I love the codes woven through the story!  And while the tech is unrealistic, it is an extremely fun addition.  And now, without further ado, the review! Author: Trudi Trueit Genre: Science Fiction /Mystery/Adventure Series:  Yes, book one of the Explorer Academy series Time Period:  Modern ...

Book Review #5 - Red Rover Red Rover

Thoughts: *clears throat* Sooo it's been a little bit. I did not forget about my blog, but I barely had time to breathe the last year. But we're back! And hopefully going to have regular book reviews! somebody scream at me if I stop posting again . And now, onto the review.  Wow. This book has been on my TBR list for years. I finally put it on my birthday wish list a few months ago. Low and behold, someone bought it for me! Since then, I've read it. Reread it. And rereread it. Saying it is amazing is not enough. I could go scream its name from the rooftops. But I'm an introvert so we're not doing that.  I loved all the codenames, the intrigue, the mystery, and the comedy! It is so wonderful to have a spy/comedy novel that is Christian and clean! It's like a breath of fresh air. Author: Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick Genre: Contemporary Fiction/Mystery/Adventure Series: Yes, book one of The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott Time Period: Modern Day Setting:  Phoenix...

Book Review #4 - The Candymakers

Image
This is an amazing story. There are a few times the story dragged, but even when it slowed down, it never lost my interest. I've always loved the setting of the candy factory and the realistic, loveable characters. In fact, if someone were to ask me "what book could you read over and over and never get sick of?" I would say that the audio version of The Candymakers is definitely on that list.  Author: Wendy Mass Genre: Fiction/Mystery Series: Yes- two book series Time Period: Modern day Setting:  in a candy factory somewhere in the United States Summary:   Four children have been chosen to compete in a national competition to create the world's best new candy. Who will invent a candy more delicious than the Oozing Crunchorama or the Neon Yellow Lightning Chew? Logan, the Candymaker's son, who can determine every single ingredient in a piece of candy by taste alone? Miles, the boy who constantly carries around a mysterious backpack and is allergic to merry-go-rou...
